Breakfast at Wendy’s

Good morning everyone!

Actually, at the time you’re reading this it could be any time of day so…”HI,” instead. Your semi-fearless foodie folks down here in the Tennessee basin of Knoxville have been looking for ways to keep you informed about our 2 cent opinions on good eats and otherwise and as life has been busy I figured I’d give you my review on my attempts to get some fast-food breakfast outside my normal routine and give you my thoughts on the fare at Wendy’s since they actually just in the past year or more started breakfast service. I figured I’d give them time to work out their kinks before putting my gut through a sampling of items but after a month and 4 weeks of trying one item per week here are my thoughts in ranking from meh to mmmmmmmm.

#4 Sausage Gravy & Biscuit

Okay, now being an admitted northerner in a southern world, I may not be the best person to tell you if this was a delicious dish or not. However, I’ve become accustomed over the past 20 years to very creamy, white gravy with sausage so when I got this and it was a little more “off white” and thinner than I have come to like I was definitely not the biggest fan of their take on the traditional breakfast combo here. I’m open to your take on it though.

#3 Sausage, Egg & Cheese Burrito

The only thing I can say was that it was “fine”. It’s on the smaller side so don’t expect it to be filling and I found it a bit bland.

#2 Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit

I think that sadly McDonald’s has ruined me for this sandwich offering. If my biscuit doesn’t actually leave a clear spot on a paper towel from the lard or butter or whatever they use I am not as impressed I guess. While it was clear that the biscuit was fresh from Wendy’s it was fluffy and didn’t have some of the buttery crisps that I’ve come to treasure. I preferred Wendy’s egg handling and presentation more though and the bacon was really good and had a nice crisp to it. I felt like I was eating something handcrafted and for me, that was a plus, but my tastebuds I think are spoiled by the other fast-food giant and well I’m just sorry.

AND NOW for the pick of my favorite thing, I ate for breakfast at Wendy’s

#1 Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit

I was shocked as all get out to discover that this was my ultimate favorite breakfast item from the ones I’ve sampled over the month. Anytime I go out to a restaurant (or did before covid) if the server gave us bread with that honey or sweetened butter nonsense I’d defiantly request a ramekin of actual real butter because am actually a savory-food lover rather than into sweets. However…this sandwich took me by surprise. Pair the biscuit which was fresh with that honey butter and a really great chicken breast with a crisp delicious exterior and a juicy interior and I will say I think this may rival my ultimate favorite breakfast fast-food item of chick’n mini’s from Jesus-Chicken (I mean Chik-fil-A). I highly recommend this item and encourage you to give it a try and let me know what you think.

In the meantime, thanks for reading and this is Anna signing off from her duty of eating a little something outside her comfort zone for your amusement.
